Our Post 16 provision is designed to meet the diverse needs of our learners by offering distinct but complementary pathways: Explore and Discover. Both pathways are underpinned by the four Preparation for Adulthood outcomes - Employment, Independent Living, Community Inclusion and Health - ensuring all learners are supported to achieve meaningful and personalised next steps.
Explore pathway
The Explore pathway is aimed at learners who are preparing for progression into college or further education. The focus is on building confidence, independence and transferable skills to support future study, work and life. Learners will:
- Develop confidence in independent travel training
- Gain experience in accessing the local community safely and appropriately
- Strengthen social and communication skills
- Continue to build on academic learning in literacy, numeracy, and ICT
- Explore vocational opportunities to develop employability skills
- Prepare for future employment by experiencing different workplace environments
Discover pathway
The Discover pathway places greater emphasis on community inclusion and preparing learners for adulthood. It is designed for those whose future outcomes focus more on independence, daily living and active participation in their community. Learners will:
- Develop independent living skills such as personal care, home management and money skills
- Gain confidence in meal preparation and cooking
- Take part in meaningful activities that promote community inclusion and participation
- Continue to progress in functional literacy, numeracy, and communication
- Build confidence and resilience in managing day-to-day life
Shared outcomes
Regardless of the pathway, all learners benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum that supports:
- Preparation for Adulthood outcomes (Employment, Independent Living, Community Inclusion, and Health)
- Opportunities to build independence, resilience, and self-advocacy
- Personalised learning that reflects individual aspirations and next steps
