Keep calm I am an Engineer
On Monday 18 March both KS3 and KS4 had STEM Workshops with Science Made Simple.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The workshop worked around solving problems like an engineer. They looked at communication using semaphore and Morse code; levers and pulleys and had to design and make their own boat to carry a small load. The workshop was very practical and all students enjoyed the experience.
The students also learned Flag semaphore. This is the telegraphy system used by sailors to give information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags, rods, disks, paddles, or occasionally bare or gloved hands. Each position is a letter of the alphabet.
